# Shift Roster

**Available on:** Desktop · Web · Phone

## What it is

The **shift roster** sets which shift each employee works on each day, and which days are **week-offs**. HR sets it up once and gives each employee a roster; from then on the employee's week-offs follow the roster automatically, and attendance takes each day's shift from it.

The same release adds the screens around it:

* an **organisation structure** — designations, units and who reports to whom — so requests reach the right manager,
* the HR side of the **attendance app** — who may use it, where each branch's staff may punch, who approves requests, and a daily review of what the app leaves for HR,
* a [Change Log Viewer](/logic-erp-learning-hub-tutorials-and-best-practices/user-access/change-log-viewer.md) that shows who changed what,
* improvements to the two **attendance registers**.

Every one of these screens is also on the **web**, and works on a **phone**.

## Before you start

* Your company must have the **roster update** that comes with this release. Without it, the new screens open empty with a message (or an error) and nothing can be saved, and Setup Payroll Shifts keeps its old layout. Ask your Logic ERP support team if you are not sure.
* A user who is not an administrator needs **rights** to these menus in **User Access**. Without modify rights, saving (and generating) is refused.
* The **payroll year** that covers today should be set up. It decides how far ahead a roster is generated.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://kb.logicerp.com/logic-erp-learning-hub-tutorials-and-best-practices/payroll/payroll-setups/shift-roster.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
